The Olive Branch pub is situated in the pretty village of Clipsham just two miles off the A1 in the tiny county of Rutland. The pub was originally three farm labourers cottages which were knocked together to make a pub in 1890. It had been the heart of the village community up until its closure in 1997.
With friends and family Sean, Ben and Marcus renovated the pub to bring it back to its former glory as a traditional village pub, and then added luxury accommodation to create this wonderful village inn, with open fires, antique tables and chairs mixed with pine kitchen tables and benches. The atmosphere is friendly and informal with chestnuts roasted on the fires in winter and homemade lemonade and barbecues in the garden in summer.
Villagers as well as diners from miles around frequent The Olive Branch creating that great British pub atmosphere, friendly and informative staff serve traditional and innovative pub food on wooden kitchen tables set by open fires, along with fine wines and real ales all at affordable prices.
The bar shows a passion for local produce with excellently kept real ales, and in the winter sloe gin, damson vodka and mulled wine all made with berries from the surrounding hedgerows, and in the summer homemade lemonade, pimms, and strawberry vodka. Blackboards cover the bar listing wines from fine and rare classics through to up and coming producers from the new world all with their own tasting notes and all offering excellent value for money. Added to this is a list full of house wines all under £20 a bottle.
In the kitchen they create wonderful pub classics alongside some more 'restaurant style' dishes all using local ingredients. Alongside the daily changing menu there is also is a daily changes set lunch, salads and sandwiches from a blackboard menu in the summer and soups and sandwiches in the winter.
In Beech House across the road from The Olive Branch there are six luxury bedrooms and suites, all individually decorated and furnished with antique French beds, dressed with Egyptian Cotton and hand sprung mattresses.
Since opening The Olive Branch and its team are very proud to have been awarded the Michelin Pub of the Year 2008, Good Pub Guide Inn of the Year 2008, and many other prestigious awards.
